Context
Mikula Technology developed two underground mining safety systems, the Crush-Module and Seismi-Shield, designed to reduce the risk of structural collapse and protect workers.
The founders needed to secure patent protection, identify licensing partners able to deploy the technology at scale, and give prospective partners confidence the IP was well protected and low risk to adopt.
What we did
- Conducted an IP review and implemented a patent filing strategy to secure the core innovations
- Analysed global patent filings to identify and prioritise strategic licensing targets across mining equipment manufacturers and operators, and arranged introductions
- Assessed competing technologies and freedom-to-operate considerations to strengthen the licensing position
- Structured IP insurance coverage with Amplisure to reduce risk for prospective licensees
- With our sister firm Vertex, produced 3D models, animated demonstrations, branding and a website to communicate the innovation
Impact
Mikula secured patent protection for its core innovations, connected with licensing partners across the mining equipment and safety sectors, and is actively pursuing partnership opportunities, with IP insurance increasing partner confidence in the opportunity.
